Another weekend, another bushwalk.
We ventured to Hornsby region - also known as the Bushland shire - for a relatively short bushwalk. One of the perks of living in Sydney is the close proximity to various bushwalks. However, admittedly, they eventually all look the same.
The circuit in Thornleigh to Stringybark Ridge was around 4.4km (it was a shorter version of this walk).
The walk took us past the Thornleigh Quarry which was constructed in 1883 by Amos & Co to supply sandstone. Due to the steep gradient, a zig zag railway line was constructed to transport the stones to the top. Aside from the sign, it wasn't obvious that it was the location of the quarry; it simply looked like an odd clearing.
The circuit was fairly easy except for the incline towards Stringybark Ridge. By this stage it was also getting quite warm and sweaty; I get quite grumpy in hot weather.
It wasn't an overly exciting walk. But it was lovely to be able to take a step away from the busy-ness of Sydney and to recentre. Apart from the noises from the planes and the powerlines, the area felt like I was worlds away from civilisation.
