Lavender is definitely one of my favourite scents and it is attributable to the bushes that my mum had planted in our garden at our childhood home. After my semi-failed visit to a lavender farm in Victoria, I did some research and discovered that the blooms happen between December to early January which perfectly coincided with my trip to Tasmania. Visiting a lavender field has been on my list of places I have wanted to visit and I was reminded of this from Cherie's visit back in August 2015.

Bridestowe Lavender Estate has over 260 acres of lavender fields and is one of the world's largest and oldest commercial plantations. The origins of the estate goes back to 1921! Almost a decade ago, the owners turned to agrotourism and there are over 50 000 visitors with supposedly 1000 visitors a day during the peak bloom period between Christmas and New Years Day!

I had a wonderful time at the estate. However sadly this was the last thing I saw in Tasmania. Probably 30 minutes after I left the estate, I had my accident and had my Tasmania trip cut short. It wasn't a major accident (and I was the only one involved). However I knew after I hit the side that my trip was over. I walked away with whiplash however also with a lovely experience with a local called Adam. Possibly 10 minutes after the accident, a giant flatbed truck roared over the other side of the crescent and a man got out and asked how I was. He said he would drive to the quarry (near the farm) where he worked and return with a truck to pull me out from the ditch. I thanked him and sat in the car waiting. Waiting. Eventually over an hour later, I thought he wouldn't return and finally got through to the rental company to organise a tow. Eventually the man returned which definitely surprised me; I really thought he hadn't been serious. Turns out the quarry didn't have a truck so he went back home (who knows where that was!) and then picked up his vehicle. We had a lovely chat for an hour as he waited with me for the tow truck. Being a participant in the rat race, I sometimes do forget the kindness of people and he definitely made the whole ordeal a lot better. We talked a lot about his life, his family, his dog, his ex girlfriend, his work ... just everything. He had a chat with the tow truck man when he arrived and only left when I was all set for my return back to Launceston.

My most memorable moments in Tasmania included: Cradle Mountain, Bridestowe Lavender Estate and definitely Adam, the man from the quarry.
